The floor-to-frame measurement is the only number that matters when choosing under-bed storage. Divan beds, slatted frames and ottoman beds all measure differently — and centre support legs can cut the usable length in half.

Measure the floor-to-frame gap correctly
Use a tape measure from the floor up to the lowest part of the frame — not the top of the mattress and not the base of the divan. On slatted frames, measure to the lowest slat. On divan beds, measure to the base fabric. Centre support legs and footboards are easy to miss but can significantly reduce the usable depth of the under-bed zone.

Leave 1–2cm of clearance above the box
A box exactly equal to your measured clearance will scrape the frame every time you pull it out. Choose a box 1–2cm shorter than your measured gap. On carpet, the pile can also reduce effective clearance — measure from the top of the carpet, not the subfloor.

Choose hard boxes for ease, soft bags for very low frames
Rigid boxes with wheels or rope handles slide out easily and stack if clearance allows. Fabric bags compress slightly, which helps on low frames under 15cm, and work well for bulky duvets and bedding. Bags are harder to access regularly and can lose shape over time without rigid support.
